Movie Review
For my movie review I watched "Barbarian". I watched this horror movie on November 17, 2022. I found out about this movie because it was advertised before another movie, I watched a couple weeks ago. Also, the movie had very good reviews on websites such as Rotten Tomatoes and Sun Journal. The movie is directed by Zach Cregger and is a horror film. My friend and I arrived at Tinseltown in Monroe Louisiana at 8:50 p.m. so we could watch the movie that was scheduled at 9:00 p.m. We decided to go at night because it was a horror film and we wanted to set the mood. The first thing we did was buy our tickets from the employee. The ticket price was $9.00. We then proceeded to pick our seats. We picked seats that were in the middle by close to the top row. When finally walking into the movie theater we stopped at the concession stand, because a movie is not a movie without popcorn. We both split the bill when buy 1 large popcorn and 1 large Sprite. This large combo coast roughly $12. Then we made our way to the theater which was playing "Barbarian". When arriving inside I could see that the theater was already packed. Almost every seat had somebody in it.
When we took our seats, the many ads were showing. We showed up a little early for the movie so we could see the beginning. As I looked around, I saw that most the people in there were couples and groups of friends. This was one of the first days that the movie was out, and critics were saying it was going to be one of the best horror movies of the year. As it was getting closer to time for the movie start, one of my favorites underrated things occurred. I love when the lights start to fade out and the surround sound gets louder. This really gets my ready to watch the movie.
The movie begins with a girl named Tess who is staying at an Air BNB for a job interview. She soon finds out she will not be the only one staying there. She finds out that the Air BNB was doubled book and a guy named Keith is staying there too. They both still decide to stay in the same house because it was a bad neighborhood. That soon find out that there is a hidden door in the basement of this house. They both go exploring through this secret tunnel, something ends up grabbing Keith and kills him. Then a new character is introduced named AJ. He is also booked into this house. When he comes to the house Tess is still stuck in the tunnel. This causes him to also find the tunnel and take measurements of the rooms. When doing this he sees that Tess is still alive and the creature has her. The "mother" which is the creature then does horrid things to Tess. AJ refuses to do what the creature wants so then he is punished. Through a lot more killings and new characters introduced, they find out that the original owner of the house was taking girls down in this tunnel. Here through lots of vulgar activities to these women. He basically creates this monster through making inbred babies, and it gets to be so bad that it eventually creates a monster looking person. This monstrous person is the "mother" which is killing all these people. They finally gain ground away from the mother and find the original owner of the house. The old man basically confesses what he has done and then proceeds to commit suicide. Of course, the movie ends with the main protagonist Tess who ends up defeating the monster and going on to live.
This movie was one of the most confusing and creepy movies I've seen. I feel like the directors did a good job of not spoiling too much in trailers for the movie. The movie really blows you away and makes you put the pieces together to find out what is doing the killing in the secret tunnel. The move also gives a very eerie feeling because of how the movie is shot, the tunnel is very dark and gives a creepy vibe. I agree that this is one of the best horror films of the year. The audience that the producers were trying to reach was an audience that were diehard fans of horror because it was a classic horror movie.
When the movie ended, the credits started rolling and the lights started coming back on. Everybody started getting up and talking about how scary and creepy the movie was. As we were leaving the theater there was a lot of popcorn on the ground from where people jumped out of their seats during the movie. Also, when leaving the theater, I thought to myself, was this worth the ticket price. Yes, it was worth the price. It was a good movie with a good plot and gave me good jump scares. Not only was just the movie worth it, but it was also the experience. There is not anything much better than going to the movies with your friend. The overall experience that I got was very good. It was definitely a good time. This movie was also very good because it gave us something to talk about on the way back home. It also gave us good conversations to talk about. The overall experience of this movie was very fun. It was for sure worth the money and time. I encourage people that want a good scare to go see "Barbarian".
