Term Paper #3
Reality TV has had a chokehold
on television since it's been around. It is one of the most popular types of TV
shows there is. Two of the most popular reality TV shows are Keeping Up with
the Kardashians and Survivor. These shows have been around for a while now and
bring in huge audiences. These shows can keep the audience on their feet and
reach certain demographic groups.
When it comes to Keeping Up with the Kardashians, they rely on drama and very dramatic music to keep the audience’s attention. Since the Kardashians are already so famous, people want to know what the daily life is for famous people. The producers of the show do a very good job of capturing all the dramatic scenes that happen in their daily life. They do this to show that even a non-famous person experiences the same things they do. They try to make the audience relate to them as much as possible. They do this by showing their family issues and arguments. There are also many storylines to follow through the series. It follows all the sisters, the one brother, and the mom. It also follows all the kids' separate families as well. The producers also do a good job adding dramatic music during the dramatic scene. This is a little way of keeping the audience on their feet while watching. They advertise for the show well using social media and TV commercials. What they typically do is only show the juicy parts of the show. They usually show parts of the last episode, so that the audience will watch all the episodes leading up to it. They use social media well because they have separate social media pages just for the show. This helps the audience stay on track when watching the show. It also helps the audience just in case they miss an episode, it can bring them up to date. Another way they use social media is that all the cast members will post to their social media platforms about the show. Just Kim Kardashian herself has over 100 million followers. The demographic group that would watch this show the most would be women and people who idolize these certain celebrities.
The next show is Survivor. Survivor is a show where people will be brought on a deserted island with little to no supplies and must survive. The winner of survivor is the person or team who lasts the longest on the island. To bring the audience in they show the struggles that these people endure during their journey. People really want to see what these people will have to do to survive. Some people watch the show to maybe learn of few things just in case they are on a deserted island. People also watch the show to watch them do the challenges. The host of the show gives the team challenges to do while they are there. The teams that win the challenges get advantages such as supplies for winning. They audience usually get a kick out of the people arguing and making mistakes. The show does a really good job of showing how constantly struggling can really break people. The show also has a lot of drama since not everybody on the teams agrees on what they should do next. Also, the winner of the show earns one million dollars. This adds a guessing game for the audience. People usually like to guess who will win the one million dollars. This show uses social media by using all the social media platforms. They like to post the most dramatic and eye-catching scenes. They also use very different people for the show. They use people from different backgrounds and heritages. They do this to try to connect to a lot of demographic groups and it makes the people on the show work with people they never have before. The demographic group that they try to reach is people who love adventure and want to be on the edge of their seat at all times.
If I was to have a reality TV show, my idea would be to have professional athletes come together and live together. There would be a big house for them all to live in. It would show their daily lives and how they live together. It would add a dramatic effect because usually professional athletes have people that do many things for them, and they won’t have them. It’s also very hard to live with a lot of people you do not know. The demographic group that would mostly watch the show would be people who loves sports. They will be able to understand and watch the daily lives of their favorite athletes. They will also learn their pet peeves and how they go about their lives. I would reach audiences through mostly social media. I will have a specific page for the show on every social media platform. I would post clips of the most dramatic scenes that happen with the show. I would also try to get the show on some of the major streaming platforms such as Hulu, Netflix, and HBO Max. I would do this to try to reach an even bigger audience rather than just have an audience that watches cable television.

In conclusion, reality TV shows have had a big audience throughout television history. Through the dramatic scenes and reaching certain demographic groups, reality television has been the most popular. Through shows that feature famous people to shows that show people trying to survive through major setbacks. The two shows that I mentioned, Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Survivor, are two of the most popular reality TV shows. They use many different techniques to bring in their audience and all of them work. They really use social media to its full potential reach the certain demographic groups that they should. This is some of the main reasons why reality TV has taken the television industry by storm and will always be one of the most viewed type of shows.
